This tune is all about Waltz. I wanted that feeling of threes. I also wanted to dive into some analog sample packs from Live that Ableton gave away for free on their site. I was mostly just testing out some of these new synth patches. They sound pretty nice.
The other day I filmed a caterpillar repelling onto the sidewalk from the tree outside my house, and for some reason it came to me that this little guy was performing some strange type of aerial ballet. It then hit me that it may work well with the waltz piece I was working on. Henceforth, this:
This new video of mine is a tribute to the magic of sunlight and its mysterious language. Nearly all of images in which light is the subject were recorded in my apartment after work during the early evening. My apartment is special in that way, because of the glorious warm light that comes in between the branches of my neighbors redwood tree, through my window, and dances along my walls. I believe that there are messages inside the movement of the light, as if it’s telling a story or singing a song.
I recorded the music for this video in Ableton Live. I chose chimes with delay and reverb because I felt it went well with the bokeh-like effect of the light artifacts. I’m using an acoustic guitar for several other layers of the tune as well, and the synth stabs are Reason. TR-808 drum machine with triplet timing. Thanks for clicking!
This is a live recording of myself with Dominick Guzzo.
Improvised on October 14, 2008.
This was filmed at the Vancouver, BC aquarium on December 31, 2010.
Music created in Ableton Live using sampled material. I left in some of the aquarium chatter for background effect.
Guess what platform I used to create this. Ableton Live? Yes.

Here’s something a little darker. I filmed this video sometime back in 2010, and after reviewing the footage felt the urge to sync it up to some experimental music and try to augment the eerie visual quality of the clips with some experimental electronic music. Overall I was pleased with the result in terms of cohesiveness.
